Brodie, to "My Dear Son," re illness among the Brodie family, measles and "third day feaver," medicinal curatives for the family's ailments, weather and crop conditions, and the prospective sale of African-American slaves Jim and Cato. Letter, 23 Aug. 1858, Oak Grove, John W. Brodie, to "My Dear Daughter," re family health and shipment of provisions; and bound volume, 1835-1843, notebook with journal entries recording planting and harvesting of crops, including upland rice, and accounts for sales of agricultural goods and building and repairing saw mills and grist mills. Photocopies of business letter, 25 Jan. 1848, Charleston, [S.C.], John W. Brodie, to Jacob Stroman re the sale of lumber; letter, 17 Oct. 1859, Oak Grove, John W. Brodie, to his sister Margaret upon the death of her husband, Jesse Hartwell; plat, 29 Nov. 1880, of Oak Grove, a plantation formerly owned by John W. Brodie; unsigned property conveyance, 1881, for 102 acres in Aiken County, S.C., from Sarah Ann Brodie to her daughter Mary P. Hogg. Includes photographic images of the gravestone of Robert Brodie, Sr., at First Baptist Church, Charleston, S.C.; gravestones of John Wardlaw Brodie and his wife, Sarah Kitchings Brodie at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Aiken County, S.C.; Tabernacle Baptist Church; and Oak Grove, the plantation home of John Wardlaw Brodie; and photographic portraits of John W. and Sarah K. Brodie.
